York-Simcoe League is in the Spirit of Giving

Aurora, ON: -
On December 5th, the York Simcoe Minor Hockey League held their annual Christmas Dinner at Jonathan''''s Mediterranean and More Restaurant on Yonge Street in Aurora. Board Members, Delegates and Committee Members from across the League attended the event to celebrate the season.
A new initiative was undertaken this year. Everyone attending was asked to bring an unwrapped gift for a child five to fifteen years of age, with the intent to donate these gifts to a local charity to be determined at the York Simcoe Christmas Dinner.
“It is great to see how the hockey community comes together to give back,” explained local OMHA Regional Executive Member Joe Rudnick who attended the event. “The toy drive idea is typical of Canadian hockey’s culture helping others and supporting your community. I’m sure we will make a lot of children happy this Christmas.”
The League was pleasantly surprised that evening when Jonathan’s Restaurant staff informed them of their Christmas Day Tradition. In conjunction with Welcoming Arms and the Salvation Army, Jonathan’s hosts families for Christmas Day dinner. Santa Claus also makes an appearance to greet the children and invite them to select a gift.
“What amazing synchronicity,” said York Simcoe’s President Peter Harmsen. “It took no time for the YSMHL members to unanimously support the idea of donating the gifts to Jonathan’s to be used at their Christmas Day Event.”
Harmsen added that the League hopes to make this an annual tradition moving forward.
