Grimsby Atom AE Regional Silver Stick Champions

Grimsby, ON: -  After 36 games, 4 tournaments, and an over-time shoot out, Grimsby Atom AE Peach Kings are still undefeated and Regional Silver Stick Champions!! Once again in undefeated games the Grimsby Atom AE Peach Kings brought home the championship banner.

From December 7-9 the team travelled to Chatham Ontario for the Regional Silver Stick Qualifying tournament. The team was prepped and ready for quite the challenge in a tournament that usually attracts the best teams from around Ontario.

In their first game Grimsby took flight against the West London Hawks. This game ended in a 2-1 victory. The MVP of this game was goalie Conner Nokes for his strong performance in net. Grimsby then sailed through Belle River the same afternoon winning the game 5-1. MVP for this game was Ryan Prodeus for his lethal wrist shot resulting in two of the goals.

On Saturday morning Grimsby faced the hometown favourites the Teksavvy Cobra’s. Grimsby charmed this team to a 2-1 victory. Lucas Ostaszewicz took MVP this game for his incredible defensive play and gaming winning blue line blast goal. This would bring Grimsby to the semi-final game against the Burlington Eagles on Sunday morning. Burlington came on strong but Grimsby was able to clip their wings in a 5-1 win. MVP went to Matthew ‘Soupy’ Campbell, for his intelligent two way play, also resulting in the game winning goal.

After the surprising undefeated journey to the finals, Grimsby anticipated a massive challenge from the North London Nationals. Grimsby had met them once before in recent tournament action. Once again they did not disappoint. It took until the third period to see any scoring, which came from Grimsby. It would remain 1-0 for Grimsby until the end of the third period, when Grimsby took a penalty with 1:30 left in the game. The Nationals pulled their goalie resulting in 6 on 4 game play. With 17 seconds left London scored to tie it up. The game then went into sudden victory over time. After 10 minutes the game remained tied forcing both teams into a shoot out position. Grimsby’s goalie Conner Nokes threw up a wall in his net allowing only 1 of 4 shots to go in, versus London allowing 3 of 4 shots in. MVP for this game came unanimously from the players for Conner. This win provided Grimsby with an invitation to the 2013 International Silver Stick Championships from January 10-13, 2013 in Pelham Ontario.
