Wednesday, December 12, 2012 Barrie, ON: - This past weekend a depleted Barrie Midget AA Colts squad battled through illness and injury to go 5-0 in Sudbury and claim a spot in the International Silver Stick Tournament to be held in Sarnia from January 18-20th. The Colts started the tournament with a 6-2 win over the Root River Rangers. Scorers were Curtis Conrad [2], Jamie Halnan, Devon Coull, Matt Seeley and Zack Bertucca. Assists to Jeff Regan, Justin Formenton, Conrad, Brady Hubbard, Jake McIntyre and Halnan. In their second match, the Colts defeated the Copper Cliff Redmen 3-2. Goals to Darren Barrett, Cailean Thornton-Wilson and Hubbard. Regan[2], Seeley and Formenton with assists. Game three saw the Colts skate to a 3-1 victory against the Nickel City Rebels. McIntyre, Halnan and Thornton-Wilson had the markers while assists went to Regan, Brady Jacobs, Bertucca and Thornton-Wilson. The semi-final game was a rematch against the Root River Rangers, which ended with Barrie on the right side of a 5-2 score. Conrad, McIntyre, Coull, Barrett and Halnan each picked up goals for the Colts. Zach Bertrand [2], Thornton-Wilson [2], Bertucca, Barrett and Ethan Barr were awarded assists. In the Championship Final, the Colts beat the Nickel City Rebels 5-1 on the strength of goals by Bertucca[2], Halnan, Conrad and Seeley. Assisting were Regan[2], Formenton, Barrett, Bertucca, Conrad, Hubbard, McIntyre and Halnan. Garrett Taylor backstopped the team to all five victories. The entire team is to be commended for their perseverance through a tough weekend of mostly shorthanded hockey.
