Blaze Bring Home the Gold

The Georgina Blaze Major Peewee AE Team participated in the CAN/AM Challenge Cup hockey tournament. There the boys got to experience playing on the Olympic 1932 & 1980 rinks, opening ceremonies and 4 on 4 pond hockey style exhibition games on the outdoor Olympic Oval Rink.
Lead by head coach Jeff Hodgkinson the Blaze were undefeated in their quest for gold. Beating the Westfield Jr. Bombers [8-0] from Westfield, MA the Brewins [7-0] from Taunton, MA the CT Riverhawks [9-2] from Shelton, CT the Wonderland Wizards [3-0] from Bridgeport, CT and the Stamford Sharks [5-1] from Stamford, CT.
Over 91 players participated in this division and 4 players from the Blaze were ranked in the top 10 for Point Leaders: 1st Luke Tonery [11pts], 2nd Garrett McPherson [10pts] and tying for 7th Noah Koyan [8pts] and Alexander Young [8pts]. Luke Tonery also held the record for Most PTS in a game [7pts] and Most Goals in a game . And the goaltender tandem of Damian Steiger and Tyler Martin led the tournament in wins and goals against average, allowing only 3 goals the entire tournament.
Winning Gold Medals on the 1980 Olympic Rink "Home of the Miracle on Ice" is something these boys will remember forever!
