Three teams selected every month of the season

The OMHA and CoachThem are excited to reveal the winners of the OMHA Team of the Month for January!

The program is aimed at recognizing minor hockey teams in the province making a positive impact on the ice and in their communities who demonstrate all of the positives that hockey has to offer.

This award isn’t about going undefeated during the month or scoring hat tricks, it’s about stories of teamwork and perseverance, leadership and being good role models in and around the rink. We want to hear the stories of food drives, helping a teammate, making new friends and having fun!

Three teams will be selected every month, with each coach receiving a CoachThem prize pack.

Belleville U9 House League: It has been a pleasure watching this team each and every week. Since the beginning of the season these kids have had so much fun together. With the help of their incredible coaches, this team works hard each and every week to learn new skills, support one another, and have fun playing the game! On and off the ice these kids have made great friendships and just have fun playing the game! You always know when U9 yellow is on the ice because you can hear the players from the bench cheering on their teammates, “Go yellow go!”

Campbellford U11 Local League: We have an amazing group of kids this year. We as coaches not only coach the kids the game of hockey but life skills as well. We teach them to respect their opponents, the refs, parents, coaches etc. We teach them how to play as a team, win as a team and lose as a team. They have embraced all of this extremely well. We wanted them to do more in their community so we joined forces with the local Rotary club and the local Jr C club walking in the Santa Claus parade and collected food for the local food bank. Dec 2nd our association hosted "hockey day" where all of our teams got to play at home. We decided to do a combined food drive/toy drive. We had the kids at the front door of the arena accepting food and toys as well as money and then we gave the money and food to the food bank and the toys to the fire dept to hand out. Getting involved. I'm so very proud of these kids, they have come together as a team learning new skills and applying them in games, winning, losing, having fun all while showing great sportsmanship.

Sturgeon Lake U11 Local League: This team has come together this year and really showed up for each other. U11 can be a tricky year with 2 age groups coming together, some go to school together, some don’t. Some have played together and some haven’t. These boys have really showed what it is to never give up and push forward. In October they came Together as a team and collected over 1,900lbs of food donations for our local food bank. Last night they should up for their team and association by representing Sturgeon Lake in the Fenelon Falls Santa Day. They waved to fans and handed out candy with the biggest smiles! We haven’t had the best start this season in the way of goals, but every game this group of boys walks out with a smile and continue to come back wanting to be better and show up for each other.
